Andy and I met back in November 2003 when we were both on a night out with our friends. We had noticed each other throughout the evening. We exchanged numbers, and a few weeks later we met up, thus the romance blossomed...
We were together for 3 years, when Andy proposed. It was the 1st of December, my favourite time of year, freezing temperatures and everyone looking forward to Christmas. When Andy produced the ring I screamed with excitement, I couldn’t believe it. I just grabbed the ring and stuck it on my finger. To this day he still claims that I actually never gave him an answer. But I am sure that by my reaction, he knew the answer was ‘yes’. I always knew that one day I would marry him. It is a day I will remember forever.
I had finally got the opportunity to plan our wedding. I had always dreamt of a fairytale wedding and of getting married in a castle. When I went to see Guthrie castle I instantly fell in love with it and booked it immediately.
Planning the wedding was very stressful, but it had good moments. I found it really difficult with my mum living in India, thus I had to do most of the planning on my own. Although Andy was involved, a lot of planning that goes into the wedding is done by the bride! Every time my mum came home from India we constantly talked about the wedding. I am known for being quite laid back and sometimes a little forgetful, so mum was constantly nagging me ensuring I had booked everything.
I had said from the very beginning that there was no need for wedding favours, but it wasn’t until I noticed the most amazing miniature whisky bottles with personalised labels, dressed in tartan jackets from Dedicated 2 Weddings that I knew I had to have them. Andy wanted our wedding to have a Scottish theme so sent Mum off to get the favours. Not only did she return with them but also pretty chocolate favours wrapped in ribbon that matched our bridesmaids colours beautifully for the ladies. We now had something to give our guests to treasure and remember our special day.
The Big Day……..
The day had finally arrived. I got up in the morning and I was so, so excited. I expected to be nervous, but I wasn’t. The first thing I did do was look outside to see the weather. It was a beautiful day, the sky was blue, and I couldn’t believe my luck!
Off we set to the hairdressers in the morning to have our hair done, whilst sipping champagne. Next we had to make our way to the castle. My dad picked me up in a hired Ferrari and took me to the castle, with everyone else following behind. When we arrived at the castle we went to have a look at the reception hall as Andy’s mum had arranged all the flowers. The hall looked stunning. The tables were beautifully decorated draped in white linen with the favours nicely placed. Pink bows were neatly tied to the chairs which coordinated with the bridesmaids colours, I loved it!
The make-up lady then arrived along with the Photographer who took some shots of us as we were getting ready.
Twelve red roses arrived, and I stupidly asked, “Who are they for?” I thought they were for my mum and then I realised they were for me, I was the bride, it was my big day, they were beautiful.
The moment was finally here, I stepped into my dress, picked up my flowers and I was now ready. Everyone walked down the stairs before me, and then my dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Highland Cathedral’, piped by Spud the Piper. I was so nervous, the aisle was long and I knew so many people were looking at me, all 110 of them! Once we had exchanged vows, my nerves disappeared. The part that I had feared most was over. It was now time to enjoy ourselves. After the service we walked back up the aisle to “Flower of Scotland”.
We enjoyed champagne in the gardens, with a bouncy castle for the kids to keep them all entertained, then the heavens opened, and it started pouring. I don’t think anyone had ever seen a bride run as fast as I did, down the hill in heels and a big dress, but I didn’t want my hair to be ruined.
Everyone mingled in the castle until it dried up, enjoying the champagne and canapés, while Andy and I went away to have our pictures taken. We had so much fun getting the pictures taken and I knew that they would look amazing.
We then had a line up to greet all our guests, which was a fantastic opportunity to have a very quick chat and catch up with everyone. The speeches then followed, my dad’s was fantastic and very funny, I was so proud of him. The Best Mans speech was absolutely hilarious, he had the whole room laughing.
Once all the evening guests arrived, Andy and I took to the floor for our first dance together as Mr & Mrs Brymer to ‘This I promise you’, a Ronan Keating song. The music followed on throughout the evening including some Scottish music which always gets everyone dancing. I honestly don’t think there was a time that the dance floor was empty.
Andy and I had the most amazing day of our life and we will never forget it. What makes it most memorable is that it was about us and who we are as a couple. We love having FUN and that is exactly what we did. Everyone had a great time.
For our Honeymoon, we jetted off to New York and Las Vegas. We had the most fantastic time, the weather was great and the shops were even better. Our hotel in Las Vegas was amazing, it had a Venice theme. The hotel restaurant looked over the water with gondolas and you could hear beautiful singing voices in the background, so dinner was always a tastefully romantic occasion.
