Scott and I met in February 1998 in Yates Wine Lodge on a night-out with friends. He asked for my number and the rest as they say is history.
Scott, a self-employed NDT technician, had been away for five weeks working over Christmas and New Year in Singapore and Dubai.
I had missed him so much and was excitedly waiting at Aberdeen Airport to pick him up. In the car I was handed a white box. I opened it up and in it was a lovely white gold diamond ring. It was a perfect fit. He also gave me a matching white gold diamond necklace. So in January 2002 we were engaged.
After a three year engagement we were planning our holiday to New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco and that was when we decided - why not get married in Las Vegas. It just seemed the perfect time.
We did some research on the Internet before mentioning it to our families. Everyone was really pleased for us. And what made it even more special was the fact they could watch it live on the Internet. That was something that was really important to us both. Although our family weren’t there in person, we knew they were there in spirit.
We set off to New York and five days later we were married at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel in downtown Vegas.
Every little detail was taken care of. My hair and make-up was done by the Glam squad. I brought with me a long ivory strapless dress with lovely beading which I bought from Our Day bridal shop, Scott had his own Wilson tartan kilt made. All set for our big day we left The Luxor Hotel in a limousine arriving in style at the chapel and got ready for our Elvis wedding.
I walked down the aisle to the classic I Can’t Help Falling in Love. It was a great ceremony and ever so special as we knew that our families were with us ever step of the way all watching it at home - even though it was 11pm in the UK.
After the ceremony we were driven back to our hotel. We had our first dance and a few drinks before meeting up with another couple from Aberdeen who had just also got married. We went for a delicious meal in one of the many hotel restaurants. Before of course having a flutter in the casino. Walking about the hotel in our wedding gear was great fun. And Scott certainly drew lots of admiring glances in his kilt. In fact a few people asked for his picture. Our night ended with us sitting in McDonalds at 2am. Certainly not something that every bride can say she's experienced.
A special day that will never be forgotten.
