After they both graduated from their studies, the couple decided to move up North to Aberdeen when Tom was offered a job as a graduate Subsea Engineer for an oil company.
Four and a half years later, whilst on holiday in Cyprus – the ‘island of love’ – Tom surprised Hannah when one night in their apartment balcony he got down on one knee to pop the question with a gorgeous ring.
The planning of the big day commenced soon after and within a couple of weeks, Tom and Hannah had already decided on a date and booked the venue.
Hannah – who was very well organised throughout the preparations for the wedding –underestimated just how long the last minute ‘little’ things would take in the week or so leading up to the wedding day.
Hannah said: “It was an incredibly exciting and emotional week in the run up to the wedding and we could hardly believe our special day had finally arrived. There was so much going through our minds that neither of us had much sleep in the few days before.”
But when the special day did finally arrive, the sun was shining brightly in the autumn sky.
Hannah arrived at St. Mary’s Church at Blairs College with her Dad. The large aisle and Hannah’s stunning dress made sure nobody could miss the bride and her father’s arrival.
Hannah explained: “My dress was a Maggie Sottero design in diamond white with unusual sparkly cap sleeves and a lace up back with diamante details all over – I absolutely loved it! Both my dress and the bridesmaids were from Brides Delight.”
The bridesmaid’s dresses were a gorgeous purple shade called eggplant and everyone commented on how lovely they were. Tom and the Best Man’s kilt tartan also complemented the bridesmaid’s dresses beautifully.
Hannah said: “We were really lucky and had some great weather, meaning that we got some stunning pictures at Maryculter House Hotel with the river glistening in the background.”
After the ceremony, the bridal party and guests then proceeded to the Maryculter House Hotel to enjoy a delicious four-course dinner with the top table being treated to personalised desserts. Hannah ensured all the extra touches were taken care of by enlisting one of the Dedicated 2 Weddings team to cover all the chairs in white covers and silver bows.
Hannah and Tom’s wedding had a real Scottish theme which their guests – most of whom were from England – absolutely loved! Their cake was unique with tartan icing, whilst thistles and the tartan Tom wore on the day featured on all the stationery. Thistles were also incorporated in to the bouquet design.
Hannah said: “We had a piper, the favours for the men were whisky bottles with tartan jackets and we even stamped little thistles to use as confetti which were scattered all over the tables in the reception. My dad, who is English, wore a kilt for the first time in his life although there was a lot of banter between him and Tom in the speeches on English and Scottish football/rugby!”
The guests had a ball and enjoyed dancing away to ceilidh music from Shindig – a fantastic lively band.
Tom and Hannah then headed off on their honeymoon, spending two weeks relaxing on the paradise island of Kuredu in the Maldives before stopping over for an unforgettable, luxury 4-day break in Dubai.
