In probably one of the most interesting love stories ever comes the planned wedding between Beauty Salon (39 Baker Street) owner Debbie Thornton and Jon Collins who works for Don Cabs.
The couple have been engaged for an amazing record 11yrs and plan to get married in Aberdeen exactly on their 12th engagement anniversary on August 17th this year.
They met 16 years ago at a party when Jon, who used to be a wild animal circus trainer in London, ran way from his job to live in Aberdeen. As far as Jon was concerned it was love at first sight even though Debbie was a bit sceptical of the smooth talking clichéd lines and the elaborate circus wild animal trainer story until he showed her pictures as proof.
Considering how clearly in-love they both are and how long they have been engaged for, the obvious question is why wait this long to make it official? The delay is attributed to the arrival of their two lovely children and money being put into their new home.
Their daughter Antonia’s birth twelve years ago was the first hold up, then six years after even going as far as getting the venue booked and the cake ordered, a total cancellation had to be done when the couple discovered they were expecting Oskar, their son.
With the arrival of both children, Debbie & Jon had to move to a larger house and couldn’t justify spending all their resources on having the wedding of their dreams so they put it off inevitably.
The couple’s lucky break came when winning a local company’s competition, a prize assuring them of a holiday in Venice with spending money. It so happened to be that Venice (which neither has visited before) has always been a dream honeymoon destination for the happy couple. Two local companies have also come forward with congratulations gifts. Our Day Wedding Shop has supplied a complimentary beautiful gown and Morioka Hair & Beauty a stunning fascinator.
The registry marriage ceremony will take place at the Town House in Aberdeen followed by a reception in the Carmelite Hotel. Their children will play the roles of bridesmaid and page boy respectively.
Debbie and Jon also plan a marriage blessing in beautiful Venice before their honeymoon.
Dedicated 2 Weddings is delighted for the couple and wish them both all the best in the future. Read all about the long awaited wedding in the next edition.
