Proposal in Paris,
Marriage at Pittodrie House Hotel

It seemed as though we were destined to meet. I worked in a hotel during my law degree and Peter arrived there as one of the managers. Peter eventually worked up the courage to ask me out for dinner and the rest is history! We continued working together for around 2 years before I qualified as a solicitor.

The proposal was just perfect. We had decided to go for a long weekend in Paris as one of my bridesmaids had lived there for a while and had been telling me all about it. I had no idea Peter had already planned to propose there before I said that I wanted to go! It actually worked out well because I didn't suspect anything and it was a complete surprise. He tried to get me to walk to the Eiffel Tower after dinner but I was complaining that my feet were sore! He therefore ended up proposing as we were walking along, with the Eiffel Tower and its sparkling lights in front of us.

The big day was 23rd August 2008. We had the ceremony at Chapel of Garioch Church, near Inverurie and the reception at Pittodrie
House Hotel. The staff were brilliant and very attentive. Thankfully most of the preparations went to plan even though I changed my mind after placing my dress order - twice! Fleur, a wonderful woman made me feel so special and her knowledge was invaluable, she was so helpful and patient as she put me in and out of the dresses numerous times. I cannot thank her enough as she guided me through the "dress process".

We have captured some wonderful memories of the day thanks to our photographer Simon Clubb. Our album simply speaks for itself, it is just stunning. Simon is very professional and is great with kids too. We also wanted another way to remember the wedding. Mark Stuart has produced an amazing and well edited DVD. He was very discreet on the day and has captured even some of the things that we missed altogether! Through the photographs and the DVD, we have seen some things for the first time!

The choice of flowers was very important to the overall theme of the wedding. We wanted everything black and white, Audrey Hepburn style, and the flowers on the day were perfect. My bouquet was totally gorgeous (candy avalanche roses). To accompany the ceremony, we chose the classical guitarist David Bracegirdle who was simply brilliant and helped to create the atmosphere that we so desperately wanted. We chose rat pack style music during our meal and for the first dance, which was wonderfully performed by Oceans 3 and we had Lily and the Boys for the evening reception. Both Lily and the Boys and Oceans 3 were found through Elite Promotions.

At the evening reception, Benjamin Iravani along with a colleague, did a cocktail bar. We gave all our guests cocktail tokens and there was a selection of Raspberry Cosmopolitans, Strawberry Daiquiris, Bahamma Mamas and Liquid Bubble Gum Shots. He did a fantastic job and everyone loved the endless cocktails!

As I am a chocolate lover, we ordered a chocolate fountain and it didn’t disappoint! Fireworx Scotland provided an amazing display at night.

It was first class and ended the day perfectly. They were really able to capture the essence of the day. A lot of the guests were impressed with how imaginative and creative the display was. We both thought it was beautiful, professional and made the day even more of a celebration.

I will always remember watching my brother Roy and Keith (one of my bridesmaid's boyfriends who kindly let us use his car and drove for us) trying to put ribbon on the Range Rovers in the morning. My three bridesmaids and I had a room overlooking the front of the hotel and they must have been trying for a couple of hours! Every time we looked out they were both just standing in front of the cars looking very confused!

When I got into the car with my Dad, Keith said "since it's your wedding day, here you go..." and he put on the dirty dancing sound track! I almost started crying, it was so thoughtful! I think my bridesmaid Shelley was pretty impressed with him too!

It was a day filled with joy. Not least as the piper tried to teach our guests to play the pipes during the champagne reception! That got some laughs!

I would like to thank my bridesmaids (especially Shelley, who shares an office with me and was involved in every single part of the preparations) for their help and support. I unfortunately do not have my Mum anymore and the girls were my support through the preparations which should have involved her. On the night before the wedding, they had pictures of her framed and a locket made so that she would still be there on the day. It was very emotional and so sweet of them to do.

We spent our honeymoon in Hong Kong and Bali. We left on the Monday after our wedding and we were away for just over 2 weeks and it was an amazing honeymoon. It was the perfect way to start our life together.
